The beginning of… cancellations of flights to and from Crete due to the coronavirus is now a reality.
According to information from the cretapost website, a Spanish airline has been sending e-mails to its customers for the last 24 hours, informing them that due to the coronavirus, the September flights to and from Crete are canceled.
A typical example is the e-mail received by a man who wanted to travel at the end of August from Thessaloniki to Crete on his return on September 10.

The mail explicitly states that his return flight on September 10 with confirmation number D1UI5Y is canceled due to the coronavirus.
More specifically, the e-mail states: “We regret to inform you that given the current uncertainty regarding the evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic, we had to cancel your flight with the confirmation number D1UI5Y, it has a flight cancellation”, while at the end it gives instructions for refunds and ways of compensating the customer.
The anger and resentment of the citizens who had booked trips to and from Crete in September is intense.
According to testimonies, people are essentially “hanging out” because they have no way to return. In fact, there are many who tried to look for another company for their return but the cost of tickets is in many cases three times what they had originally paid.
At the same time, the tourist operators of Crete declare “ignorance” about the specific cancellations as they have not been informed yet.
