Rice – Agreement to buy 3,000 tons of Carolina rice
The Association of Rice Mills of Greece has pledged to procure 1,500,000 kilos of Carolina rice from the First Agricultural Cooperative of Rice Producers of Chalastra and the Second Agricultural Cooperative of Rice Producers of Chalastra respectively
The Association of Rice Mills of Greece, aiming to highlight the top quality of Greek rice at the international level, proceeded 3 years ago to an important initiative to provide a way out for Greek rice crops.
Achieving this goal required direct cooperation and dialogue with the Cooperatives in order to proceed smoothly with the rationalization of the cultivation of Greek Rice with varieties that meet the needs of both Greek and foreign markets. At the same time, through proper planning to safeguard producers, reducing the potential risks of untimely interest from neighboring countries such as Turkey or other European Union countries.
The result of the three-year joint effort and coordination of the Association of Rice Mills of Greece and the Cooperatives was the signing of an agreement for the purchase of 3,000,000 kilos of Carolina rice at a purchase price of 0.37 euros / kg based on specific specifications and supporting production under contract cultivation.
Specifically, the Association of Rice Mills of Greece has pledged to procure 1,500,000 kilos of Carolina rice from the First Agricultural Cooperative of Rice Producers of Chalastra and the Second Agricultural Cooperative of Rice Producers of Chalastra respectively. The agreement reached is the beginning of a model cooperation with an initial guaranteed quantity of rice of stated specifications, which contributes significantly to the viability of Rice Producers and Rice Mills.
This initiative of the Association of Rice Mills of Greece is part of the strategy that has been developed with the aim of the production of Greek rice to reach the desired levels to meet the needs of the country. Also, through the promotion of the quality of Greek rice and the increase of its production to contribute to the restart of the Greek agricultural economy and development but also to the extroversion of the agricultural production of our country.
