Alternate Defence Minister used a swearing in ceremony for new navy recruits to send a firm message to Ankara regarding Greece’s resolve in defending its sovereign rights.

“Greece is a par excellence peace-loving country, and it desires good relations with its neighbours. Yet it is not disposed to hand over or compromise its national, sovereign rights,” Kouvelis said at the Kanellopoulos naval base.

“Our armed forces have diachronically been a force of deterrence and have defended our national sovereignty,” he said.

“Do not forget that you are serving, along with the officers of the armed forces, the Hellenic Republic, the nation, and the higher principles and values that have kept Greece strong and free,” the minister said.
