Argostoli – Improvement of bridge operation by the Design and Construction Unit of the HAFGS
The Design and Construction Unit of the Hellenic Armed Forces General Staff (MOMKA / GEETHA) has undertaken through an economic entity the further improvement of the operation of the bridge and the construction of a pedestrian-bicycle path on the metal “Bailey” type bridge that has been installed in Poros Kefalonia
The Design and Construction Unit of Hellenic Armed Forces General Staff (MOMKA / GEETHA) has undertaken through an economic entity the further improvement of the operation of the bridge and the construction of a pedestrian-bicycle path on the metal “Bailey” type bridge that has been installed in Poros, Kefalonia.
As announced, the improvement is carried out in the context of the social offer and the assistance of the Armed Forces to the population of the remote areas and the region, in cooperation with the local government and with the approval of the Ministry of National Defense.
The specific “Bailey” bridge is a double / single type with a span of 90 feet (27.5 meters), 4.2 meters wide and has a deck of composite concrete slab.
In order to further improve the operation of the bridge and at the request of the Municipality of Argostoli, with the care of MOMKA / GEETHA, in the first phase, a reinforced concrete mid-buttress was studied and constructed to reduce oscillations and increase the bearing capacity of the bridge.
At the present stage, asphalt paving works are being carried out for the waterproofing of the existing deck and a pedestrian-bicycle path with a useful width of 1 meter is being constructed on both sides of the bridge, for the safe passage of pedestrians and bicycles.
The budget of the project is 40,900 euros, it is financed by the Municipality of Argostoli and is executed following a signed program contract with the Municipality of Argostoli by MOMKA / GEETHA.
