The Greek national basketball team defeated the national team of Belgium (75-54) on Saturday and is now preparing to face Spain on Tuesday for the quarterfinals.
Fotis Katsikaris’ squad did not face any fierce resistance from the Belgian team, aside from in the first hald of the game, when the score was close. The Belgian team managed to take advantage of Greek mistakes and turnovers, however it was only a matter of time until the Greek team took charge.
Vasilis Spanoulis was instrumental in Greece’s outburst in the second half and helped his team secure a 15-point lead by the end of the third quarter. The Greek team carried on at the same tempo in the final quarter of the game, resulting in a 75-54 win against Belgium. Aside from Spanoulis and Kostas Koufos, Greece had Yannis Bourousis and Giannis Antetokounmpo on a good day.
