Unemployment fell to 15.8% in the second quarter of 2021, down 1.7% from the previous quarter and 4.7% from the corresponding quarter of 2020, according to data compiled by the ELSTAT. The unemployment rate in the first quarter of 2021 was 17.1% and in the second quarter of 2020 16.7%.

The highest levels of absence for the second quarter of 2021 are observed in the sectors of other services, construction, trade, hotels, restaurants, transport and communications.
Compared to the first quarter of 2021, working hours increased in all sectors of the economy and mainly in the sectors of agriculture, forestry and fisheries, trade, hotels, restaurants, transport and communications.
