Fraport announces earlier -than scheduled – renovation of 14 regional airports its manages in Greece
According to the Athens-based consortium, led by German multinational Fraport, the works at the regional airports – located in the country’s premier holiday destinations – were completed three months before schedule
Fraport Greece this week will unveil the 14 renovated airports around Greece that the German-Greek consortium manages, one of the more successful privatizations recorded in the country over the past decade of economic turmoil.
According to the Athens-based consortium, led by German multinational Fraport, the works at the regional airports – located in the country’s premier holiday destinations – were completed three months before schedule.
Works included five new terminals, expansions of current terminals, 12 upgraded runways and the construction and renovation of no less than 12 fire stations, reportedly one of the biggest “deficiencies” discovered by the consortium after taking over the previously state-owned and managed airports.
Fraport Greece holds a 40-year concession for the facilities.
The official unveiling of the airports, coming days after the official opening of the 2021 tourism season in Greece, will take place at Thessaloniki’s Macedonia Airport, attended by Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
