Yildirim: ‘Why does Tsipras not speak of eight Turkish officers?’
“Now these Greek soldiers are being held and will be tried. The judiciary will do what it should. We cannot intervene in the judiciary,” he added.
Turkish Prime Minister Binai Yildirim linked the case of two Greek army officers imprisoned without charges for over a month in Turkey, with the case of eight Turkish officers who applied for asylum after the July, 2016 abortive military coup in Turkey.
“Why does Mr. Tsipras not refer to the issue of the eight Turkish officers? They participated in a coup. They killed people and harmed the country,” Yildirim asserted.
“Now these Greek soldiers are being held and will be tried. The judiciary will do what it should. We cannot intervene in the judiciary,” he added.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan recently said, “It is not a just thing that those who preoccupy themselves with the two Greek soldiers have not involved themselves with the extradition of the eight who escaped to Greece.”
