Over 10,000 refugees remain trapped in the refugee camp of Moria, on the island of Lesvos.

The government continues to ignore the calls of municipal authorities, which have repeatedly stressed the need for the decongestion of the camp, which does not  have the capacity to receive more than 3,100 people.

Lesvos Mayor Spyros Galanos, in a letter to migration minister Dimitris Vitsas, complains that the ministry’s promises remain unfulfilled.

Galanos stressed that there is an upward trend in the number of arrivals.

In his letter, Galanos refers to the crucial nature of the refugee issue, noting that there is an urgent need to begin immediately the decongestion process in Lesvos, as there are now over 10,000 asylum seekers on the island.
