Citizens and organisations are holding a new protest this afternoon in Thessaloniki against the Greece-FYROM naming agreement that was recently signed and already ratified by FYROM’s parliament.

The demonstration will take place outside of the Macedonia-Thrace ministry at 7pm, and the organisers have said they will patrol the event to avert infiltration by extremist elements.

There are concerns, however, about a protest that will be held by anti-authority groups – two hours earlier, at 5pm – which oppose the demonstration that aims to annul the Greece-FYROM deal.

Protests in other cities

Aside from Thessaloniki, the accord has stirred a backlash in other cities.

A grass roots protest has been organised for tomorrow, 28 June, at 8pm in Kozani.

Another demonstration has been organised by cultural organisations in Vergina, and a protest will also be held in Pella on 28 June.

Finally, a protest on Sunday, 1 July will take place in Amphipolis.
