Plan Your Getaways: Long Weekends and Holidays in Greece for 2026
Greece’s 2026 public holiday calendar offers only three long weekends and one four-day Easter break, with several major holidays falling on weekends resulting in a mixed outlook for workers, travelers and families planning time off
Most months in Greece include at least one public holiday, giving workers a chance to slow down, rest or travel. In 2026, however, opportunities for extended breaks will be limited, as only a handful of holidays create long weekends.
According to the official calendar, 2026 will feature just three long weekends and one four-day break, centered on Easter. Several widely celebrated holidays, including August 15 and the second day of Christmas, fall on Saturdays, eliminating the possibility of additional time off for many employees.
The Three Long Weekends of 2026
Only three public holidays in 2026 create classic three-day weekends:
- Feb. 21–23: Clean Monday (Kathara Deftera), marking the start of Lent
- May 1–3: Labor Day, which falls on a Friday
- May 30–June 1: Holy Spirit Monday, traditionally associated with early summer getaways, as it offers the first long weekend of the summer season.
The Only Four-Day Break: Easter
The sole four-day break of the year comes during Greek Orthodox Easter, which falls in April:
-
April 10–13: Good Friday, Holy Saturday, Easter Sunday, Easter Monday
Easter remains the most significant religious holiday in Greece and traditionally provides the longest continuous break for travel and family gatherings.
