A former SYRIZA justice minister that the last-minute approval of the new Penal Code by Parliament determined the timing of elections as the government postponed them for one week to pass it into law.

Prisons have been transformed into uncontrollable Mafia strongholds that murder and control criminal networks within and outside of prisons.

Much has been said and written about the problems with the education system and that debate is necessary in order to improve it. The time has now come to hold a public debate on how to address the conditions in Greek prisons.

The proposed changes will also loosen the requirements for the release of prisoners serving multiple life sentences, such as the members of the notorious and now defunct N17 terrorist organisation.
