Golden Dawn MP calls on military to arrest PM, President, Kammenos
He was essentially calling for a coup d’etat due to the government’s agreement with FYROM
Parliament moved today to deny Golden Dawn MPs the right to speak in the debate on New Democracy’s no confidence motion, after MP Kostas Barbarousis in parliament called upon Greek Army to arrest Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, President Prokopis Pavlopoulos, and Defence Minister Panos Kammenos.
He was essentially calling for a coup d’etat due to the government’s agreement with FYROM.
Barbarousis also declared “[we’ll have] their heads in Prespes, the location where the Greece-Fyrom accord will be signed.
Parliament Speaker Nikos Voutsis with the consent of parliament decided, based on parliamentary rules, to ban all Golden Dawn MP’s from speaking in parliament until after the vote on the no confidence motion.
Voutsis described Barbarousis’ unprecedented statement as an effort to incite violence at the demonstrations against the FYROM agreement today, tomorrow and on Sunday.
Kammenos demanded that Barbarousis’ parliamentary immunity be lifted so that he may be tried on charges of high treason.
“The armed forces take an oath on the Constitution, protect the polity, and protect democracy, and no one can call upon them to trample on the Constitution. Such calls have led to the loss of territory,” Kammenos said.
Kammenos called on parliament to lift Barbarousis’ immunity so that he can be tried on charges of an offense to the polity, high treason, and preliminary action in preparation for high treason.
Golden Dawn denounced Barbarousis’ statement and said it was against the party line, but no disciplinary measures were announced.
