Greek Fin Min Launches Bid for Eurogroup Leadership
The finance ministers of the euro area’s 20 member states will choose their next chair during their monthly meeting on December 11 in the Belgian capital.
Greek Finance Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis is set to enter the race for the Eurogroup presidency, a pivotal role at the heart of Europe’s economic decision-making, according to a Bloomberg report citing people familiar with the matter.
His candidacy is expected to be filed before the 5 p.m. deadline in Brussels.

Each country has an equal vote, regardless of size—an arrangement that often turns these selections into finely balanced diplomatic contests.
Pierrakakis will reportedly face competition from Belgium’s Vincent Van Peteghem and Spain’s Carlos Cuerpo, both seen as strong contenders. The Greek minister’s office declined to comment on the report.
