What the Cypriot Ministry of Energy announced
The official announcement about the field in Plot 6 of the Cyprus EEZ was made on the morning of December 21 by the Ministry of Energy of Cyprus, according to sigmalive. The “Zeus-1” drilling operations by the joint venture of Eni Cyprus Limited (Operator) and TotalEnergies EP Cyprus B.V. as indicated in the announcement, were successfully and safely completed.
The drilling, which was carried out by the drilling ship “Tungsten Explorer” at a distance of 162 kilometers from the coast of Cyprus, 5 kilometers west of the “Cronos-1” drilling and at a water depth of 2,300 meters, demonstrated the existence of a column of pure natural gas 105 meters, with quantities that, according to preliminary estimates, amount to a total of 2 to 3 trillion cubic feet (Tcf).

The “Zeus-1” discovery, the third in a row by the licensed consortium in Block 6, after “Calypso-1” and “Cronos-1”, has also been successfully tested in terms of its quality technical characteristics and confirms again the promising prospects of the region. Already, the Ministry of Energy and a consortium are examining the ways to accelerate and optimally utilize the discoveries in Block 6 of the EEZ of Cyprus, with the results of the new drilling being integrated, by Eni and TotalEnergies, into the studies they are conducting for this very purpose.
