A low front that has poured torrential rain over much of mainland Greece and the islands on Thursday is expected to continue and even worse on Friday, with civil defense authorities in the evening announcing that two major roadways in the greater Athens area will be closed.
The decision affects the main coastal boulevard (Posidonos) and the north-south Kifissos freeway that connects the western and northern Athens districts with the coast and Piraeus.
Additionally, state-affiliated offices and services will be closed on Friday in Attica prefecture (the greater Athens-Piraeus region), with civil defense authorities also calling on the private sector to rely on remote work, where possible.
