Government lashes out at Mikis Theodorakis with a vengeance
...
Government spokesman Dimitris Tzanakopoulos, Syriza ministers and top cadres went on the attack against 92-year-old famed composer Mikis Theodorakis, after he lambasted the government over its handling of the FYROM naming negotiations, at the huge Athens rally yesterday.
Theodorakis described the government as national nihilists and a minority government, and accused it of left-leaning fascism.
“The remarks of Mr. Theodorakis, with prejudiced and politically extreme views, is a sad development. From thereon in, everyone is judged for their political views, and their political stance,” Tzanakopoulos said.
“It was not a correct choice for Mikis Theodorakis to appear and speak in the manner that he did,” the spokesman said.
“I do not know if when referring to left-leaning fascism, which is the most dangerous variety in his view, he was also referring to himself and to his past. I do not know whether it honours Mr. Theodorakis to see the way extreme right-wing elements and the fascists in Greek political life treated him, greeted him and praised him,” Tzanakopoulos concluded.
