Health Min. expects covid case increase in autumn
The Minister of Health emphasized that in the fall we expect an increase in cases as mobility from open spaces will be transferred to closed ones
Minister of Health, Thanos Plevris speaking to ANT1 channel about the course of the pandemic, mentioned that some of the hard indicators are moving much better than we expected. For example, there are currently around 140 intubations, even though experts initially predicted 400 at the end of July.
Cases have been on the decline for two weeks, said Mr. Plevris, while there is a large number of hospitalizations with the difference, however, that these mostly concern older citizens also suffering from some other diseases who contracted coronavirus. However, Mr. Plevris underlined that in the fall we expect an increase in cases as people will move indoors from outdoors.
Asked if measures will be applied in the fall, Mr. Plevris said that the Government wants no mandatory measures, but this will also be determined by the course of the pandemic. The same applies as an intention to vaccines, but without forgetting that they have proven to be decisive in stopping the pandemic and their necessity, especially for vulnerable groups, is a given.
Regarding the issue of unvaccinated health workers, he said that they will be suspended until December 31, as has been said, and until then the Government does not intend to review the measure.
