Politically-minded heads turned in balmy Athens early this week – days after Orthodox Easter in Greece, and on the heels of what’s described as a massive holiday exodus in the east Mediterranean country’s provinces and islands – with news that Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will be received by Charles, Prince of Wales, next Tuesday at the iconic Dumfries House.
While the Greek leader’s visit to southwest Scotland’s Ayrshire County has been repeatedly designated as “private”, it nevertheless generated interest in what’s usually an “off-week” in Greece’s political landscape.
Mitsotakis reportedly accepted an offer made by the Prince of Wales roughly a year ago.
The speculation in Athens holds that Mitsotakis’ visit to Dumfries House, which is owned, maintained and exploited by Charles’ high-profile The Prince’s Foundation, is related to the Tatoi Estate, due north of Athens.
The latter property and buildings comprise the former royal country estate in Greece.
