Bookings on Airbnb platforms are high in the run-up to August 15, in almost all tourist destinations in the country.

The occupancy of tourist destinations is close to 99% for August in areas of the Peloponnese and 91% in the Region of Western Greece, as many travelers choose them in order to avoid overcrowding due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The availability and reservations per region, for the indicative period 13 to 18 August and for overnight five days, are as follows, according to the president of the nationwide network of brokers, Themistoklis Bakas:

August started strong

The rise of arrivals by air in the “heart” of the summer, the most critical month of the tourist season, is continuous. According to data published in the recovery tracker of the Institute of the Hellenic Tourism Business Association, in the week of August 2-8 the scheduled seats on incoming international flights amount to 817 thousand, in the week of August 9-15 to 835 thousand and in the week of August 16-22 to 841 thousand. It is noted that during the week from June 28 to 4 July 593 thousand were scheduled on incoming international flights, as reported by capital.gr.

The greatest demand comes from Germany, which for Greek tourism is the most valuable reservoir of income and arrivals, with over 170 thousand scheduled places per week in August, from the United Kingdom, Italy, France and the Netherlands.

In terms of destinations, demand is high for the airports of Heraklion, Rhodes, Corfu, Kos, Santorini, Mykonos, Chania and Zakynthos.

The picture of revenue in July

Revenues for July this year ranged at 70-75% of revenues in 2019. At that time, travel receipts had reached 3.645 billion euros. Based on the increased mobility expected in August, revenues are estimated to be just as satisfactory.

In August 2020, travel receipts amounted to 1.373 billion euros, compared to 4.104 billion euros in the corresponding month of 2019. The decrease in 2020 compared to August 2019 was 66.5%. The incoming travel traffic in August 2020 amounted to 1.807 million travelers, reduced by 73.3% compared to the corresponding month of 2019.
