Covid-free Greek isles beckon tourists
Greek islands rely on being covid-free to woo tourism revenue
The islands of Greece have an ambitious plan to entice visitors this summer, vaccinating all their inhabitants, as the BBC reports.
The goal of “Operation Blue Freedom” is to turn the country’s islands, such as Milos, into “Covid-free” travel destinations. Many of the locals of Milos rely on tourism and welcome the plan to reopen. According to Stamatis Garderis, mayor of Kythnos, 100% of the island’s population has received both doses of the Pfizer vaccine, with Kythnos being the first Covid free island.
But not everyone is so optimistic.
