Tourism: The cancellations of British tourists to Greece have begun

According to Greek tourism officials, the crucial issue is what British Tui will decide, which, as it informed Greek hoteliers, has already accepted some first cancellations, but its decisions on whether to cancel the first trips scheduled for May 17 will receive them in the coming days depending on the number of cancellations.
As reported by Mrs. Konstantina Svynou, president of the Kos Hoteliers Association and president of ITEP to ot.gr, Tui of Great Britain orally informed its associates in Greece that it has the first cancellations after yesterday’s announcements but a final decision regarding whether to implement the program for trips to Greece in May will taken from Monday depending on the number of cancellations.
Tui from Great Britain plans to fly to Kos from May 17. However, after yesterday’s announcements of the British government that places our country in the orange zone, it is expected to reconsider its program.
As Mrs. Svynou noted Greek hoteliers had the hope that the British government would choose to put in “zone” destinations, and not entire countries. So some Greek islands (Rhodes, Kos Corfu, etc.) would be in the green zone as it was announced a few days ago. Finally, the British government chose the solution of merging the zones of entire countries, a fact that raises concerns about the consequences of this decision in some Greek islands, for the first days of the season.
It is noted, however, that the bookings were not many, while it is also pointed out that the list will be reviewed in three weeks by the British government and it is hoped that Greece will present better epidemiological indicators and will join the green zone from the beginning of June.
For this reason, hotel factors emphasize the special importance of improving the epidemiological image of our country in the coming days.
