A report by the Greek Inspector of Public Administration has confirmed that employees on Lines 2 and 3 of the Athens Metro have embezzled 1.156 million euros.

Among the major cases undertaken by the Office of the Inspector in 2016 was that of the Urban Rail Transports S.A. company, in a case that involved the sale of fake tickets by employees.

The over one million euro take went to employees on the two Athens metro lines, who were selling passengers tickets without the required documentation and pocketing the payments.

Investigations by the Inspector of Public Administration have led to charges being filed against 1,267 state and municipal employees.
