FYROM Prime Minister Zoran Zaev has been conducting marathon consultations with opposition party leaders, focusing mainly on the referendum on the Greece-FYROM naming accord, and the next elections in FYROM.

The meeting with the leaders of the VMRO-DPME party, the DUI party and the Besa party convened at 9am.
Six hours later, Zaev spoke to the press about the points on which the leaders had reached agreement.

Firstly, they agreed that the next elections will be conducted by a caretaker government. They also agreed on the staffing of the Central Elections Commission and on party campaign funding.

The MIA news agency said that the discussion of the FYROM-Greece naming accord would be held after the break in proceedings.

The key issue is the referendum and what question will be posed to voters, the date on which it will be held, and its character (advisory or binding).

Zaev said the party leaders agreed to wrap up all issues today.

On at a meeting on 18 July, Zaev informed the opposition of the possible phrasing of the question, which will link the Greece-FYROM accord with FYROM’s admission to the EU and Nato.
“Do you support entry into the European Union and Nato with the support of the agreement between Macedonia and Greece?” was the proposal tabled by Zaev.
