Tsipras: We are abandoning austerity, not fiscal discipline
The PM asserted that the country will leave behind the memorandums and extreme austerity and will regain its national sovereignty
Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras highlighted the positive aspects of the “historical agreement” that his government struck on debt relief and funding, in briefing President Prokopis Pavlopoulos on the results of yesterday’s Eurogroup meeting.
The prime minister asserted that the finance ministers’ decisions produced the framework for an agreement that goes far beyond the expectations of the markets.
Tsipras said that the agreement corresponds to the ethical duty of Greece’s European partners vis a vis Greece’s sacrifices, while at the same time preserving the cohesion of the eurozone and the vision of European unification.
The PM said that 21 June will remain in history as an important date for Europe as well as for Greece, which will turn a page.
Tsipras underlined that the government will not abandon the prudent path of fiscal discipline and reforms, but that the country will leave behind the memorandums and extreme austerity and will regain its national sovereignty.
