Probe of police guard who did not react to attack at Iranian Embassy

Greek Police has ordered a probe, with sworn testimony, of the foray of the anarchist group Rouvikonas at the Iranian Embassy in Athens.
The raid of the anarchists, who smashed windows and vandalised the building, was carried out at 6am today in the posh, high-security neighbourhood of Palaio Psyhiko.
The anarchists attacked the guard post at the embassy, and the police guard exited and appeared to follow the orders of the assailants.
The event was recorded on a video that was taped and released by the group.
The video shows the policeman exiting his post and one of the attackers smashing the windows of the guardpost with a hammer.
It should be noted that the policeman was wearing a white shirt and was not wearing his uniform. He was armed with a submachine gun, which was hanging on a sling on his shoulder.
The release of the video is what led to the ordering of the probe.
Until now, there have been no arrests.

“These images will be seen around the world, and the message that will be conveyed is that anti-authority groups have the right to do whatever they please. There is no democracy in which this is considered self-evident or viewed as political activism,” Bakoyannis underlined.
