Editorial To Vima: A cheap range

Greece surely isn’t the center of the Earth, as some overweening countrymen of ours are fantasizing, however the country’s place, the geography, the fact that it stands on the changeling of West and East, makes it worth of attention and threw the centuries claimed.

Especially on transitional periods, like this one, the interest of forceful countries increases. A simple retrospection is enough to prove what said.

Since the famous «eastern question», when the Ottoman Empire was about to fall and till the second day after WWII, when the winners USA, Russia and England determined the sphere of influence, just like later during the Cold War, many forces exerted in Greece.

But even now that the world is changing and great geopolitical and geostrategical interests are reformed, powerful international forces are developing here, simply because we stand on the middle of the crossroad of oil, energy and transportation. And since the region of  south – east Mediterranean still has unused natural sources, it is unstable and a danger zone.

Nowadays Greece is under the european command, the americans consider it as the historically most stable ally and it is claimed by the russians because of its influence on the balkan Slavic zone and because it helds the excellence of Orthodox Church. From this almost open and known to everyone russian claim outcomes the crisis between Athens – Moscow relations with the threat of deportation of diplomats from both sides.

But at the same the country has to face aggressiveness and prejudice from Turkey, which claims the first merit at the region and a part of some regional force on this world which indeed changes.

The whole pressure against Greece is growing under these circumstances, because as it happens our country is wick, vulnerable and depended because of its unfavorable financial status.

If Greece was financially powerful and since it participates in international groups, it would have more freedom and possibilities of practicing multidimensional foreign policy, just like they had done before Konstantinos Karamanlis and Andreas Papandreou.

Unfortunately nowadays, as the Macedonian matter has proved, such as the for many month now custodial of the two greek militants, Greece is in danger of becoming a «cheap range where they exercise while cursing some foreign soldiers», as Alkis Alkaios wrote and Manolis Mitsias sung first.

For those reasons is an emergency for the economy to stand on its feet and and to get rid of obsessional approaches and unnecessary divisive limitations.

Now it is the time for progress. A small step at a time policy has no place nowadays. Simply because without healthy and fastly developing economy you can not take even one step on foreign matters.

And, additionally, it is necessary to have certain policy on allies, without whom no state can take its chances on this new, complex world.

Which means that  greek policy has to collaborate and discuss thoroughly for our future.

Otherwise, the place of a cheap range is waiting for us.
