Famed composer Mikis Theodorakis has issued a public response to Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras recent interview with ERT Greek state television, in which he dismissed Theodorakis’ political views.
Asked to comment on Theodorakis’ staunch opposition to Athens acquiescing to the use of the name Macedonia by Greece’s northern neighbour, Tsipras said, “We love Mikis Theodorakis for his work and for his [life’s] course, but I prefer to remain with his work and course, and not the political stands that he has taken from time to time. We love him even if he disagrees with us,” Tsipras said.
In an article, Theodorakis called the FYROM naming agreement that was unveiled this week as a great shame that will mark the history of the country.
Mikis Theodorakis’ open letter to the Prime Minister is as follows
To: His Excellency the Prime Minister of Greece
Dear Alexis,
love – love and Logic – Logic
Once upon a time, you believed and demonstrated with [the slogan] “Down with the murderers of the Nations”. What, I wonder, does your Logic tell you, when all of them congratulate you?
What evil have you done for them to collectively praise you so fervently?
I am doing nothing more than reminding you that you should be worried.
That is the Logic of my love.
Salutations,
Mikis
