Turkey’s Minister for European Affairs, Omer Celik, called Panos Kammenos “mindless”, after the Greek defence minister announced the movement of thousands of troops to the border regions of Evros and to the islands of the eastern Aegean.

“If we look at the statements of the Greek minister, we can see that he is brainless,” the Turkish minister said.

Celik, a former journalist who also heads Ankara’s EU accession talks, said that the EU should issue a warning to Greece regarding the statements of the country’s political leadership.

Celik said that in cases of disputes, it is not possible to always criticise the country which is not an EU member.
